Highlights
my design approach
In Summer 2021, I participated in an 11-week internship as a UX Designer under Nintendo’s Customer Experience Marketing team, spearheading my own project to create a customer-facing experience for the Nintendo online e-commerce website.
I was responsible for the end-to-end design process from user research to designing interactions and building prototypes. I collaborated with other designers and cross-functional teams such as marketing, data analysts, and engineering. Due to NDA restrictions, I cannot disclosure all details about my project. Please contact me for more information at vynguyen.ux@gmail.com.
Throughout my internship at Nintendo, I participated in the entire design process where I delved into user research, data analysis, and producing deliverables that were user-centric such as prototypes and illustrative assets. The most meaningful part of this internship was engaging in mentorships that were productive, engaging, and growth-oriented.
A major highlight during my internship was the creation of my user survey that launched on the home page of the Nintendo e-commerce store where I received over 30,000 responses within a week timespan. My survey contributed to the research of my design project, and even though the project has not been released yet, it still gave my team user and data insights to create impact in the future. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to contribute to such an empowering and innovative organization.
My project focused on creating a digital experience that would bring smiles to our consumers that shop on the Nintendo e-commerce store. It was a digital experience to promote user engagement, meaningful connections, and bring more of a humanistic element to the Nintendo store - bringing delight to the consumer shopping experience. A highlight of my experience was developing an interactive prototype, testing it with real users, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and presenting my design deliverable. At the end of the internship, I presented my project concept in front of the entire Nintendo organization including the President of Nintendo, Doug Bowser!
Below are the points I engaged in the most throughout the internship and project.

REFLECTION
Clarity Over Perfection
Collaborate with Cross-Functional Partners
Designing with Constraints
Prioritizing clarity in early-stage design discussions ensures alignment and prevents unnecessary iterations - progress is better than getting stuck chasing perfection.
It was an invaluable opportunity to collaborate with talented individuals from across the Nintendo organization including but not limited to Design, Engineering, Product, and Marketing. I learned how to effectively communicate design ideas across teams and gained firsthand insight into how each function collaborates to bring a product to life. This experience reinforced that design is never done in isolation - every team plays a crucial role in delivering the seamless, joyful experiences that define Nintendo.
Embracing technical and business constraints as creative challenges rather than blockers leads to more innovative and practical design solutions.
